It was super fun for about 2 months. now they are all packed up in storage.

That's the thing about buying things for hobbies.. Sometimes they might be fun for a little while and then you don't really use them much. Before buying something now, I've started to ask myself in many cases if I picture myself using it for a while.

As I have gotten older, the one thing I regret (but had no control over) was my attraction to women. Any attempts in having a relationship with one has been nothing but a complicated, stressful exercise in futility.

I feel like I could have accomplished, and enjoyed, so much more without worrying with/about them... whether it be hobbies or otherwise.

For me it was the opposite. I had many conquests and many long term relationships but I always wished I could re-do my 16-26 yrs of life and take advantage of the ones I skipped because i was in relationships :)

pussy is pussy. nothing beats being single. i wish i was single again.

One hobby that never suffered was home computers and my love for the TI-99/4(a) which was my first computer.

I had one of those when I was younger, and still have it. Back then, we
had an old color TV set we hooked it up to, and used an off-brand cassette recorder from Kmart. About the only two fancy things we had then were a
speach synth and an Extended Basic cartridge.

Over the past 2 yrs I've collected:
    1. a full TI with expansion box, 2 drives, modem, sketch board, and about 20 modules and an official TI cassette recorder.

Within the past 10 years, I have collected an expansion box with one floppy drive, a Hitachi monitor, the official cassette recorder, and a few extra carts. The box came with some modules in it. The one I really wanted was
    the one that arrived DOA.

I played with it some after I got the expansion box, but have not fired it
up in probably over a year now. It is sitting on a desk behind me.

if it has tires or tits, you're gonna have problems.

That almost sounds like a tagline.... :D

Yeah I was just thinking the same thing. I'll be using that at work in a meeting promptly.

Seeing as how most of the people I am in meetings with usually fit have one
or the other, I think maybe I had best not. :)

Like drones and model planes... Or your kids outgrow their interest in them and then its just you, alone, with a drone and a chinese phone app that doesn't work with any newer phones so you can't use it anymore.

For a while my sons and i were r/c car'ing and dirtbiking every weekend. Now Mine is the only working rc car, the older son has no time for me or his younger brother, and the younger son is into fortnite and girls so the onlyaction his dirtbike sees is when dad starts it once every two weeks to keep things fluid.

I built a sweet "call of duty zombie" wooden fort for my 6 yr old in the back yrd... he never uses it.

And that chill 14ft john boat has sat for 2 yrs now, cuz the kids don't enjoy fishing anymore...

    *sigh*

I think I'm going to start going to the horse track every weekend and drink highballs and smoke cigars. that will be my new hobby.

There's risks with anything. For example, I've only used my GoPro knock off camera once in the last 8 months, but I'm planning on taking it out for some serious video shooting on Sunday. But it only cost $40, so I'm not too fussed.

Spent more on drones, but I want to explore how I can use that technology. First drone was a cheap "practice and learn to fly" drone that takes good video in some circumstances, like when stationary, adjusting height only or panoramas. It's not so good when shooting while changing speed or direction, because of the lack of stabilisation on the camera (no gimbal). But, still, it's good to practice with, and if I kill it, no biggie.

My best buys are sports related. A good set of track spikes will get a LOT of use, guaranteed. They're more likely to be retired as "backups" and "training spikes" than actually wear out, even after a couple of seasons. But my needs are evolving. My newest pair, bought 2 months ago seem to be a huge step up, and I may consider another upgrade to a more aggressive pair in a year's time - One has to be careful, but I'm in such good condition, I can safely use the more aggressive models.

One hobby that never suffered was home computers and my love for the TI-99/4(a) which was my first computer.

Was an Atari 800 for me, I still have it, but the CPU/Vid card is having issues. I already got a replacement super cpu card which gives the system a new s-video output that's supposed to be "the best" color mod for the 8-bit Atari as well as a 65C815 cpu (it's like a faster 6502 with some extra instructions).

Also has an Incognito card which gives the system a ton of amazing features including a whoping 1mb of ram. I love that system. It's in storage...

It was super fun for about 2 months. now they are all packed up in storage.

Yeah, my STe, MegaST, are rotting in storage. Once we get moved I'm going to set them up in the garage (I hope).

Cool! :) I did it a bit in high school, typically, the 100m, 200m, 4x100m relay and triple jump. Didn't have the money or justification for spikes back then. My HS years were 1980 - 1986, and the last 4 years were my best ones. These were the years after football training brought my sprint capabilities
    ut.

I now run (in age group 50-54 (Masters) or 50+ (AV):

    60m (Masters only)
    100m
    200m
    400m
    Occasional 800m
    100m hurdles

    4x400m relay
4x200, Swedish, medley relays when offered at meets.
    Long jump
    Triple jump
    High jump (occasionally)
Throws, just for fun (though now seriously working on my discus).

I also do the occasional outdoor pentathlon or decathlon. :)

Have won state Masters medals in the 100 and 200m (bronze) this year. Also won medals in the hurdles, but only because not too many are silly enough to attempt them. :D Got through my heats and made the final of the 60m and 200m at this years Australian Masters. No medals this time, but it was my first attempt at that level.

I still have the actual spikes i had (longs and shorts) but not the
shoes. Wish i kept the shoes. My last pair screamed 80's.

White Nike's with a bright pink swoop and yellow and purple highlights with pink and yellow soles.

Nike don't suit me, as my foot is too wide for them. My middle distance spikes are Asics, but for sprints, I prefer Saucony - stiffer plate, gives me more spring off the track, and I can really feel the difference at the top end of my speed range.

I think I'm going to start going to the horse track every weekend
and drink highballs and smoke cigars. that will be my new hobby.

Well let me know when your going. I'd be thrilled to find someone to
go to t track with. ;-)

sounds good, but then it might not be wise to be seen at the track with someone named Hustler.

I guess that depends who's on the winning side of the "hustle". ;-)

I now run (in age group 50-54 (Masters) or 50+ (AV):

My friend in highschool does tri's all the time. I haven't run seriously since probably about 1994... In fact i don't think i could even run a mile now without having a grabber.

Its funny when i started running with the distance guys to sub in/out for thei r 4x400 team, they tried to get me to go sub 50s but i HATED the 400 and 52 was the best I could put out. However the football team worked out near the track and their coach got wind of my 100 and 200 times/splits and asked me if I wanted to play rb. I always liked football better than anything but wussed out and stayed with track despite pulling a 4.6 40 on my first try.

    Thanks,
    Zombie Mambo

Yeah, tris are not my thing. :) And as for the mile, I ran a mile a month ago in 6:22, which I was pretty happy with. :)

400 for me is a very recent thing. I never could run it as a kid. Even 200 was pushing it. Now, I can run 400 in 61 seconds. Still a bit off the pace in my age group, but still useful for the 4x400m relay. My best range is 60-200 metres, though I'm not yet getting full acceleration. That needs just lots more work and practice starts, doing them like drills. :)

I presume you mean 40 yards (I've read about that speed test). Football references are not going to translate, because we play a totally different form of football here. :) No idea what I'd run 40 yards in. I ran 60 metres in 8.48 2 months ago at the nationals, have been known to get down to 8.32, and my hand timed 75 yard time should be around 9-9.5 seconds. Last pre-season, I scored around 9.6, but I was holding back, to save myself for a mafor meet 2 weeks later. :)

The 75 yard measure is one we use in our fire brigade competitions, because that sport dates back to the mid 1800s, when we used to use Imperial measurements. The track markings are still in the same places for the traditional events. That means we also have a natural 100 yard measure, which is from the first start line to the hydrants. But that's a sport that's going to take a lot of explaining (with vids!). It is, however, the reason I took up track 4 years ago. I needed more speed. :)

there's already laws against peeping on people and violating their privacy.

it's not illegal to videotape someone on their property if you are on YOUR property. i've done it with my shitty neighbors.

So been shopping around for those x-ray glasses, vhs machines? I hear beta removes concrete better.....

and if you are under water you might be able to isten right though those barriers ....

It's one thing if you're into it for a few years, but if it's something

if i dont use something for six months and it's not a seasonal thing, i toss it.

Unless it is a pc computer that knows bbs, then dig it up years later. (hahah)
